Liberty Global have today announced that they have acquired Virgin Media for $23.3 billion in a merger of cash and stock, creating one of the largest broadband companies in the world, covering 14 countries and 47 million homes.

Liberty say that they will be using Virgin to tackle both the business and mobile spaces that have been the companies weak point in the past.

There’s no news on how this will affect the carrier primarily in the UK, but they will be continuing to run as Virgin Media and the logo will stay the same according to liberty.
