Its only been a few weeks since we first posted our review for the Livescribe Sky Wifi Smartpen and only two months since it was first launched in the UK, but already the company has been forced to cease sales of the product in the UK due to a court case from BSkyB.

As you may know BSkyB is the British satellite broadcaster commonly known as Sky, who have (according to reports from the Guardian) decided to sue Livescrive due to the company’s use of the brands name.

Alongside Livescribe BSkyB will also be suing Dixons Retail, PixMania and other online/ in-store retailers, Livescribe responded to this with the following statement:

“Legal counsel for British Sky Broadcasting (“BSB”) has written to Livescribe alleging that we are infringing the trademark rights of BSB. We are currently taking legal advice from our counsel in the UK.

While Livescribe does not offer any goods or services similar to those of BSB, out of an abundance of caution we have instructed our distributors and resellers in the UK to stop selling the Livescribe Sky Wi-Fi smartpens in the interim while we investigate the matter.”

We have not heard anything from BSkyB yet, but if we do we shall update this post.
