This week Lumos launched a new backpack called the Aster.
They claim that this backpack is the world’s safest commute backpack, featuring a set of built-in lights that have been designed to make the wearer stand out, as well as automatic brake lights that will light up when they detect deceleration, and profile lights on the side and front panels.
It will also work with a companion device called the Sidekick, which is a Bluetooth remote that mounts on the handlebars to show other signals.
This all works via an in-built 4,000 mAh battery that can last up to 15 hours according to Lumos, with a companion app that will allow you to change the Aster’s light settings.
This all provides huge advantages as it means that you won’t have to remove lights from your bike after getting off it, take your bag with you and you have everything. You can leave the Sidekick on the bike to provide a security system, which will use an accelerometer to detect motion and sound an alarm when the bike is moved for more than five seconds when locked.
On the inside of the bag you will find built-in bottle pockets, a rain cover, helmet holder, whistle buckle, and U-lock holder loops.
It also features a TPU-coated exterior that allows it to be water resistant.
It will come in both an 18L and a 24L version, with either an Avatar Blue or Dark Night finish.
