Here Maps is an extremely popular navigation application, it offers a great alternative to Google Maps, or other paid or free options.

Sadly for users on the Windows Phone platform, Here Maps will no longer be a viable, after Here announced that it will be dropping support for Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile.

It also revealed that it will be pulling its apps from the Windows 10 app store on March 28th, as well as the workaround that kept the apps running after June 30th.

The Here applications on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 will continue to work, however, they will not recieve anything more than “critical bug fixes” from now on.

Here says that it did this because of incompatibilities with the app on Windows 10, which requires the use of a workaround, or Here rewriting the app from the ground up, which is a lot of work for what is quite a small segment of the market.

This, of course, means that they can focus on the versions of the app on both iOS and Android, and reflects the buyout of Here by the consortium of car manufacturers, Daimler, BMW, and Audi as they don’t have as much love for Windows as Nokia did.
