With Mastercard, PayPal and Visa all trying to jump into this sector, it’s hard to see who will be the leader thus far.

However already launching their service, Mastercard could take the top spot with the launch of their new Masterpass service earlier today, beating its rivals to an early launch date.

Allowing you to store and pay for online or in-store items via an application, Masterpass will be supported at Boots, xArgos, House of Fraser, The Hut Group and MBNA from launch, allowing users to pay for items at a click of a button of tap of the screen within most major stores in the UK.

Alongside which, the service is already available in the US, Canada and Australia, with plans to launch it in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East later this year.
