Today during their event, Microsoft announced a few updates the Windows Phone 8 one of those was a revamp the Skype for Windows Phone 8 that comes with a new UI alongside which the app can also run in the background, delivering push notifications when you’re not using it.

There’s also some new tile sizes, three to be exact that allow you to view the Skype tile and may other tiles in small, medium and large formats which display the latest messages as well as an unread message count, there’s also a new favorites list that will as you can probably guess, contain a list of your favorite people and conversations.

On the topic of People the new app also integrates with the People Hub, allowing the app to show contact cards, there’s also a new collection of emoticons, group chat integration with the ability to change a conversation topic.

Were not sure when the app will be available for download, but we will update this as soon as we do, in the meantime check out the video demo below explaining the update.
