Quite some time ago Microsoft announced that a game called Scalebound would be launched in 2017, developed by Platinum Games it was an action-adventure about a boy and his dragon who go on various quests.

We listed the game as one of our games to look forward to in 2017, however, it seems that is no longer the case.

Today Microsoft issued a statement to confirm that they have cancelled the launch of Scalebound due to yet to be confirmed reasons.

Here’s what the Microsoft spokesperson said:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound.”

“We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, and other great experiences.”

It is thought that the cancellation is due to a report from Eurogamer who claimed that several senior members of the development team took a month-long break from the project in autumn, leaving development to fall behind schedule.

It’s quite sad news to hear, however, it the game wasn’t ready yet then it’s better to cancel it then release an unfinished game.
