Microsoft has today confirmed on its blog that the rumored update for Windows 8, codenamed Windows Blue, will be launching later this year.

Tami Reller reveals on the blog that the update will allow for smaller 7 inch tablets, more form factors and increase battery life, which links with the recent Acer 8.1 leak.

The update will also bring more options for businesses and consumers as well as some fixes from feedback they  have received from current Windows 8 Users.

Reller also mentioned that apps within the Windows Store have increased 6X since their launch, which was coupled with the news that over 250 million Windows Store apps have been downloaded to date.

100 million licenses have also be sold for Windows 8 since launch.
