Over the last few months there has been a number of rumours that Microsoft will release a new OS called Windows 9, and now finally the company has officially teased the release.

The tease was posted by Microsoft China on Weibo with the following message:

“Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 9 is coming soon, do you think the start menu at the left bottom will make a come back?”

Alongside that message Microsoft also included the logo for Windows 9, which you can check out at the image above.

Microsoft will be hosting its own press event on September 30th, where they are expected to introduce Windows 9 which is currently codenamed Windows Threshold. Alongside that we also expect that Microsoft will show off Technology Preview versions of the systems that will be handed out to developers and enterprise users.

This distribution is said to launch in late September to early October. The Technology Preview is also expected to show off a new mini Smart Menu, and the remove of the Charms bar along with a number of user interface changes and features.

Aside from that, Microsoft is expected to release a publicly available version of Windows 9 in Spring 2015.
