A company called Montblanc has today announced a new watch accessory that could prove interesting, called the Montblanc e-Strap, the new accessory has been designed to turn any normal watch into a smartwatch, allowing it to access a number of smartwatch functions.
It does it in quite a simple way however, as you might have guessed by the name it is simply a strap that replaces your old watches strap.
The strap itself is made from leather and has been fitted with a 0.8 inch OLED display that has a 128 x 36 pixel resolution, and is even both shock and splash resistant.
That display is what makes your watch smart, allowing you to view notifications right from your wrist.
The watch also has vibration in-built, allowing users to set a small vibration when a notification comes from, which can be done by connecting both the e-Strap and your phone together via Bluetooth 4.0.
Once connected the e-Strap can notify the user of calls, messages, calendars, social media notifications, reminders and even control both the phone’s camera and its music player.
Montblanc also say that the e-Strap will last 5 days before it needs to be recharged, which is done via a microUSB cable.
The Montblanc e-Strap will work with both Android and iPhone from launch, when it will be available in two versions, the first is for the e-Strap by itself which will be priced at €250, and as part of the TimeWalker Urban Speed Chronograph watch range which starts at €2,990.
