Every year it seems that online media secures more ground in the television and film markets, and if this year’s Golden Globes is anything to go by then we can expect great things from online media this year, that is because the nominations for the 2017 Golden Globe awards were announced today, with a total of 17 Golden Globe nominations for shows from both Amazon and Netflix.

Amazon’s Manchester by the Seas received a total of five nominations, which is a drama that has received nominations for Best Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actor, Best Performance by an Actor (Michelle Williams), Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Alongside that, Amazon also received nominations for Best TV series, Best actor in a TV series, alongside others, with nominated TV shows including The Salesman, Transparent, and Mozart in the Jungle.

But Amazon wasn’t the only service to receive nominations, Netflix got some too.

Stranger Things and their new drama series, The Crown have also been nominated for best drama TV series, with Winona Ryder and Claire Foy receiving nominations for best actress respectively.

John Lithgow was also nominated for the best supporting actors in a series, limited series or TV movie award for his work in The Crown, and finally, Netflix received a nomination for Divines.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of the awards when the kick off on January 8th on NBC in the US, of course, we will keep you updated with all of that.
