More details have this week been released about the upcoming Battle of Jakku DLC for Star Wars Battlefront, which was this week revealed to bring with it a new 40-player mode called Turning Point.
Set on the desert planet of Jakku, the free DLC sets the scene for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Empire is being pushed back as event’s unfold after the Return of the Jedi’s final battle, Rebels must take one of three control points, expanding within the Empire territory, all up to the point that you can unlock the ability to perform a final assault on the Empire base.
Those playing as the Empire must split up and defend these control points from the Rebels.
“At the edge of the map, the Empire has constructed a make-shift base as well as smaller fortifications strewn across the landscape,” DICE’s lead level designer Dennis Brännvall has explained.
“Rebels need to locate and capture one of three control points in Imperial control. The clock is ticking, but if the Rebel team succeeds with a capture additional time will be added and new control points will be available for capture.
“Moving through these increasingly challenging checkpoints, the ultimate goal is the Empire’s base where the final stand will take place.”
Airspeeders and AT-STs will also feature in the mode, with a Super Star Destroyer taking its place in the map’s background.
EA have said that they will show full gameplay for the DLC on November 30th, 7PM UK time, after which the DLC will be released to those who pre-order on December 1st, and then on December 8th to everyone else.
