Nintendo has today unveiled its own line of figurines that will interact with various games, and will be set to take on other games like Disney Infinity.

Called Amiibo, the figurines will launch with support for Super Smash Bros, using NFC technology with the Wii U to allow players to collect their own characters and play with them in-game.

The figurines will basically act as a memory card for games, and will store their own stats and fighting styles on that memory. A Wii U will then be able to access this data after the Amiibo has been placed on a gamepad.

Nintendo also say that the figurines will support Mario Kart 8 soon, and the new Wii U functionality is implemented, gamers will be able to use it with other figurines from Disney Infinity and Skylanders.
