Don’t get to used to your .co.uk domain names just yet, as Nominet are proposing the introduction of new and shorter .uk domain names.

Nominet, the company that controls domain names in the UK, will be offering the UK prominent businesses within the UK, at £20 per year for the .uk domain names, which is quite an increase from the £5 a year for .co.uk domains.

Eleanor Bradley, Nominet’s director of operations said it’s not all about the cash however, and states the charge would simply be used to increase Cyber Security.

The .uk plans will be held under consultation until January, until then you can head over to the source link for more information and share you feelings about the new domain.
