Today the online-only grocery supermarket, Ocado announced that they are now the first UK-based supermarket that has launched an app for the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, allowing customers to shop with their voice.

This new app will provide these customers with a range of voice-control features, allowing them to add products to an existing order or basket, check what products are currently in season, check out some recipes for those products, and check an existing order or basket.

You can also ask Alexa “where’s my order” to track your basket and see how long you have left to amend an existing order.

Lawrence Hene, Marketing and Commercial Director at Ocado, said the following about the launch:

“Grocery shopping should be quick, easy and convenient. Using voice technology, we’ve made it even easier by developing our new app that will enable our customers to add to their Ocado baskets without lifting a finger.
“Consumer demand for increasingly convenient ways to shop is growing rapidly and we’re excited to be the first supermarket in the UK to offer this technology, making customers’ lives ever easier. Alexa will add any item to your Ocado basket simply by asking her to do so. It’s as easy as that.”

The new app will be available to download and use from Tuesday, August 29th, from which time you can activate the new Ocado skill via the Amazon Alexa app.
