A company called OTM Technologies has this week released a new Kickstarter project for a new smartpen that they are calling Phree, said to be the world’s first unrestricted, high-resolution smartpen that is capable of writing anywhere as a mobile input device.

In order to function Phree needs to be connected to a mobile device, desktop, notebook or even TV via a Bluetooth connection.

But once you have connected it you will find all of the interesting stuff about this pen.

We live in a world of screens. But writing or drawing on them isn’t always spontaneous and doesn’t always feel natural, especially if they’re put away somewhere. Screens are useful, sure. We love our screens, too. But sometimes, they’re just too limiting.

Phree lets you write, draw, annotate, and express yourself in countless other ways. On virtually any surface.

Capable of writing within applications like Microsoft’s Office OneNote, Evernote, Acrobat, Viber and much more, Phree has a number of features that OTM Technologies think will make it one of the best smartpens around to date, even including an integrated screen and mic.

The Phree smartpen is now available to back on Kickstarter in Black, Graphite, Silver and Gold. Pledges start at $169 for a pen and the project is looking for $100,000 in funding, of which it has already broke, hitting over $147,000 at the time of writing.
