If you have been waiting to playback 4K content then you might be interested in a new product from Pioneer, who unveiled the first ever drive that can play back 4K UHD Blu-rays on a computer.

It’s not something that we have seen much of yet, so this means that Pioneer now has one of the best solutions for playing back this content at home, since there aren’t many home Blu-ray players around at the moment.

However, it is only for computers and it is only available in Japan as of yet.

In terms of specs, the player requires your computer to have an Intel Core i5 or i7 Kaby lake processor, a minimum of 6GB of RAM, and a 4K capable HDMI 2.0a port.

Of course, you would also need an HDMI 2.0a-equipped 4K monitor to play it on.

They will be available in two versions, the BDR-S11J-BK and BDR-S11J-X., The later is the high-end version that is slightly quieter and is said to have improved audio quality playback.

The new drives will be released by Pioneer in Japan by the end of February, they have not revealed other region availability just yet, and there are no prices.
