Before now Apple’s CarPlay functionality has only been available in cars which have already had the software built into them, however that will change in the US this summer, as Pioneer has this week made their aftermarket stereos official, announcing that the first CarPlay compatible stereos will join theri existing 2014 in-dash solutions.

Pioneer’s years of expertise integrating smartphone connectivity into the automotive environment has provided us the opportunity to be among the first to offer CarPlay to drivers,” said Ted Cardenas, vice president of marketing for the Car Electronics Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “By providing an aftermarket option, Pioneer’s 2014 in-dash multimedia systems give many iPhone owners the ability to add CarPlay to their current vehicles.”

These new systems will also feature a more advanced and responsive user interface than the previous Pioneer in-dash systems, as well as new sound quality, convenience and safety enhancements as according to the company.

At the moment there’s no news on when exactly these systems might launch, or for how they much they will be priced.
