Pope Benedict XVI first joined Twitter back at the beginning of December taking the user name @Pontifex, up to know he hasn’t Tweeted anything but his first Tweet was due to go live today and so it has, but what did he say?
One hour ago he Tweeted the following:
Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.
— Benedict XVI (@Pontifex) December 12, 2012
Since joining the social network the Pope has amassed nearly 700,000 followers and controllers seven other accounts with separate languages including Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Polish, French and finally Arabic.
All of these accounts mean that Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger (The Pope’s real name) actually has over a million followers.
Were not to sure what the Pope will be Tweeting next but it has been announced that he will be Tweeting every Wednesday with a new message.
