Alongside the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Samsung unveiled their new virtual reality headset during their Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event.

Still called the Gear VR, it comes with a number of new features and will ship alongside the Galaxy Note 7 next month.

The biggest change is the Gear VR’s size, it’s just a little wider, longer and taller than its predecessor at 207.8 x 122.5 x 98.6mm vs the previous 201.9 x 92.6 x 92.6mm dimensions.

It’s also a little heavier than the old Gear VR version, weighing 312g vs 310g.

Aside from that, it looks similar to the previous version in design.

And that isn’t the end of the features, it also has a USB Type-C port alongside a microUSB port for backwards compatibility. This makes it compatible with the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge Plus, and the Note 7.

The new Gear VR also has an improved field of view at 101 degrees vs the previous 96 degrees, as well as a darker interior colour scheme and a dedicated button in the Gear VR menu.

Aside from that, it’s pretty much the same as the old version.

The new Gear VR headset will be available on the same day as the Note 7 on August 19th, we don’t yet know pricing for it, but we will let you know when we do.
