During their Unpacked event earlier today, Samsung didn’t stop at announcing the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, they also unveiled a new version of their Gear VR headset that has been designed to be compatible with both the new Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus.

Alongside this, it will also be compatible with Samsung’s new virtual reality platform Samsung VR, which will pack over 8,000 videos and 2,000 “premium experiences” into one app experience that will allow you to watch, play and use content from a number of sources, including Copa 90, Rinse FM and Nowness. Users of the old and new Gear 360 cameras can also upload their works to the platform.

Like the old version, it was designed by Oculus, however, unlike the old version, it will come with a dedicated wireless controller that allows for one-handed controls.

The headset also features two 42mm lenses for a 101-degree field of view, alongside with Samsung’s distortion correction technology, an accelerometer, gryometer and a proximity sensor.

It will be compatible with the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus smartphones, along with the Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 and S6 edge.

We don’t yet know how much it will be available for or the price.
