If you have accessed YouTube over the last few weeks you might have noticed that some of your favourite YouTuber’s are posting videos of themselves attempting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which was created in order to raise awareness and funds for research into the motor neurone disease, this is all well and good until someone uses trends like this in order to promote themselves.

And that’s exactly what Samsung has done with their latest video, which shows the Galaxy S5 attempting the challenge. All of which would be perfectly fine if it wasn’t for the fact that Samsung is using this in order to promote itself, using the vitalness of the campaign to their own advantage.

This comes to light when you hear the robot voice in the video call out the three phones that it will be nominating, the iPhone 5S, Nokia Lumia 930 and the HTC One M8, all of which are devices which are not waterproof or water-resistant, and therefore cannot take part in the challenge.

Samsung knows this and has specifically chosen these three devices in order to promote the fact that the Galaxy S5 is water-resistant, forgetting to chose other phones from other manufactures that are waterproof like the Sony Xperia Z1 or Z2, a phone which is actually waterproof.

The video then goes on to insult by not revealing a donation amount to the charity, and even though Samsung have stated that they made a donation, without an actual amount it can only be taken with a pinch of salt.

We suggest that you take a look at some of the other campaign videos out there, there’s some truly great attempts from a number of big name YouTuber’s that you should enjoy, my favourites would have to be Shay Carl’s, Patrick Stewart’s and Syndicate’s.

Also make sure to go and donate to ALS, it’s a great cause that needs some love.
