Today LG announced a pretty huge update that will be coming to their TVs that are running webOS 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5.

As you can see from the title, this new update will bring the Sky Store to LG TVs, allowing users to buy and rent both films and TV shows directly through Sky on their LG TV, without the need to use a Sky set-top box.

And with the app, LG TV owners will be able to check on a weekly basis to see what new TV shows and films have been added to the Sky Store and that will include some huge titles such as Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Kong: Skull Island, Beauty and the Beast, and Logan.

You can stream a lot of these titles in HD through the app, however, if you are renting a film you will only be able to access the SD quality version.

And as with Sky Store on Sky TV, you will also receive a physical copy of the film or TV show that you purchased in the form of a DVD in your letterbox.

Darren Petersen, Head of Product Marketing & Partnerships for LG Electronics UK said the following about the launch:

“We’re delighted to again partner with Sky to bring its latest movie content to our Smart TV platform.”

“The Sky Store service offers our users even more choice when deciding what entertainment to enjoy on our award-winning TVs and an unrivalled selection of the latest movies, giving yet another reason for potential new customers to select an LG TV.”

James Morton, Head of Strategy & Business Development for Sky Store also added the following:

“Sky Store continues to be a huge hit and as the UK’s regular number one digital retailer for new movie releases, it is fantastic we can offer LG Smart TV customers blockbuster movies straight to their big screen at home.”
