SmartThings has this week announced that they are now compatible with Amazon’s Echo smart device, allowing users to control SmartThings products with the Echo.

In case you don’t know what it is, the Amazon Echo is basically an internet-connected speaker that works as a personal assistant and responds to a number of commands and questions you give it.

Basically you can do anything from quickly add an item to your Amazon shopping list to ask how high the Eiffel Tower is, all you have to do is start your sentence with the word “Alexa”.

With the SmartThings integration you can also control your SmartThings compatible devices, allowing you to easily control SmartThings lights, switches and anything that has been plugged into the SmartThings Power Outlet.

SmartThings released the following video to provide an example of Echo controlling a Cree bulb, Osram Lightify bulb, a SmartPower Outlet and a Sonos player.
