When they were first launched, the Snap Spectacles were pretty exclusive and people were snapping them up from vending machines around the US like they were going out of fashion, however, it does seems as though they might just be going out of fashion.
This month Snap revealed their financial report for Q1 of 2017, in which they mentioned the amount of revenue that they made for the quarter, but not just that.
Snap also revealed that they made a total of $2.3 million in its “other revenue” category, which is thought to mostly include the Spectacles.
Snap didn’t reveal exactly how many Spectacles they sold, however, if you take the angle that the whole “other revenue” category only includes revenue from the Spectacles and if you divide the $130 price tag by that $8.3 million, then you get a total of 63,846 units sold for the Spectacles.
That’s a pretty low number and definitely isn’t what the company expected, however, since it was only produced thanks to some maths, it should be taken with a pinch of salt. It could be higher or even lower than 63k.
To top that off, Snap has only been selling the Spectacles online since February of this year, before that they were only available from vending machines.
That exclusivity does mean reduced sales.
