Today Sonos launched its latest home theatre product in their line of wireless speakers, the PlayBase, which is a new super-slim speaker that has been designed to sit underneath your TV and bring the base back to your home theatre.

It measures 720 x 380mm and has a height of just 58mm, that makes it Sonos’ slimmest speaker that is currently on the market.

In terms of design, the PlayBase has a glass-filled polycarbonate shell which they have designed to minimise vibrations and withstand the weight of any TV up to 34kgs, which is a wide range of TVs.

On the front, there’s also an acoustically-transparent grille and there are some capacitive touch controls on the top for pause, play, volume and track skipping control, along with a pairing button on the lift hand side.

Inside there is a ten-driver speaker system along with ten class-D digital amplifiers. Each of these drivers have been designed for the PlayBase specifically, consisting of six mid-range drivers, 3 tweeters and a single woofer.

Like other Sonos speakers, you can build up this sound by connecting to the Sonos SUB, Play 1s, Play 3s, or the Play 5s for a full 5.1 surround sound setup.

The PlayBase also features Sonos’ Dialogue Enhancement feature to enhance vocal clarity, along with a Night Mode feature for toning down the bass at night.

It’s also compatible with TruePlay, allowing you to custom-tune it to your room with an iOS device.

Around the back you will find an inset moulded section that features an optical audio input, power supply port, and an Ethernet port.

The Sonos PlayBase will be available globally from 4 April in black or white colour options for £699 or $699.
