Back in May 2016, Sony announced that they had sold around 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles, today they announced that these numbers have grown further, with a total of over 50 million PlayStation 4 sales.

This is a huge milestone for Sony, especially when you consider that the PlayStation 4 hit it 17 months faster than the PlayStation 3 consoles.

These 50 million sales figures includes the PS4, PS4 Slim, and the PS4 Pro, and it is the amount of units that were sold to customers, not those that were shipped to retailers and suppliers.

On top of this, Sony also said that it had sold 396.6 million games across retail and digital downloads as of December 4th, or roughly seven games for every single console.

Sadly, they did not state how many sales were made for the individual consoles.

In comparison, we don’t know much about Microsoft’s most recent sales numbers as they stopped reporting them some time ago.
