Recently Spotify has gained some competition, particularly from Apple, who recently announced that their Apple Music streaming service has over 17 million paying subscribers.

This is a big number, however, it’s still not as high as Spotify’s numbers.

The CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek confirmed that earlier today, revealing that the Spotify streaming service now has 40 million paying subscribers in a tweet.

This news is particularly interesting because they only announced that they had 30 million paid subscribers back in March of this year.

This could be thanks to Spotify’s recent extension of their Family plans to up to six members, however, Spotify has not revealed where these new subscribers came from exactly.
