This week Synology unveiled a brand new addition to their J series of NAS devices.

It’s called the DiskStation DS418j and has been designed to provide entry-level users with a fantastic storage solution for home data backup and media streaming with massive storage via its four bays.

Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology Inc explained more with the following:

In the digital era, photos, videos, and digital assets are being generated faster than ever. For home and individual users, it is essential to have a private storage solution that can satisfy the needs for both large storage capacity and secure data sharing. Combining hardware innovations and rich applications, the 4-bay DS418j allows users to enjoy cloud synchronization and multimedia streaming at a competitive price.

Synology has also built in their Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) technology into the drive, allowing for easy storage management and automated RAID management that allows for creation and expansion of storage volumes.

It also makes migrating RAID easy. basically, the drive will automatically adjust your data capacity and RAID settings depending on the size of HDDs that you use, making it easy for users to safeguard their data in case of drive failures without needing to know about RAID.

On the front, there’s a status and power indicator to the left, a power button in the center and there are also some indicators for your drive to the right.

At the back, you will find the power connector, a 1GbE RJ-45 port, a Kensington Security Slot, and a couple of USB 3.0 ports.
