Recently it was found that the Blackberry Messenger service was used to co-ordinate rioters around the city, today an 18 year old woman was charged by police, for using Blackberry Messenger service to encourage rioters.
The teenager who has been kept unnamed for her own safety, lived in Clacton, Essex, she has been formally charged by the police under the Serious Crime Act, and will appear in court on the 1st of September.
This all originated after it was found that social media and Blackberry Messenger in particular was used to help spreas the riots in London and across other UK cities, this is probably the first of many cases the police will find during the next few weeks.
The Prime Minister David Cameron hinted earlier this week that those found to have used the service to esculate riots could be banned from using IM services as well as social networks..
“We are working with the police, the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality,” he said.
MPs suggested that instead the services should be shut down completely during disturbances like this, during the riots BBM promised to assist police in tracking down those involved.
What do you think? Do you know anyone who used the service like this? Did you?
