Tesco Mobile has today announced that they will soon become the first MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) to offer 4G for free in the UK, granting both new and existing customers free 4G access from January 30th, removing the current £2.50 surcharge for the use of the service.

The free 4G service will be available for both pay monthly and SIM only contracts, with prices starting at £7.50, however with that deal users will only get 500MB, of course that can be upgraded for more data.

Tesco also revealed that they will be offering 4G bundles to pay as you go customers in the future, as well as with an expanded line-up of handsets that includes the Motorola Moto X and the Sony Xperia Z1 compact, alongside the currently available iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4.

Just to note, being an MVNO, Tesco Mobile runs on the O2 mobile network.
