For some time now, Tesla has been working to expand upon their solar offering by acquiring SolarCity.

For all of that time, it has simply been in talks but as of today the acquisition has finally become official, which comes after the shareholders from Tesla and SolarCity approved the deal last week.

They revealed the official acquisition with the following brief statement:

We’re pleased to announce that Tesla’s acquisition of SolarCity closed this morning.

This has been in the works since June of last year and is part of Elon Musk’s “Master Plan”, which he aims to  complete in order to provide customers with complete solutions for creating and managing their own energy production, storage, and consumption.

This idea was showed off during the unveiling of the new Tesla roof tiles a short time ago.

It will be interesting to see what Tesla’s acquisition of SolarCity will mean for the industry and the cool products that they are sure to announce for the future smart home.

It’s all exciting stuff.
