Today Tesla issued a new over-the-air software update for the Model S and Model X electric cars, including an easter egg named Ludicrous+ that makes both the Model S and the Model XX much faster, adding around 33 extra horsepower to the cars when enabled.
When engaged on the Model S P100D, this allows you to hit 60 mph from a stop in just 2.4 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than in Ludicrous mode.
That puts the car in the same arena as some of the fastest cars available, including the McLaren P1. In fact, it means that the Model S P100D can now be the fastest regular-production car that is on sale anywhere in the world.
The Model X also gets a 0-60 time improvement, but its not quite as significant due to the added weight.
To engage it, you will simply need to go into the settings menu and hold down the blue Ludicrous button for at least five seconds, after which you will get a warning that the new mode may cause accelerated wear on the motor, the gearbox, and the battery pack, you simply either need to press“yes, bring it on!”, or “no, I want my Mommy.”
This is quite impressive stuff, especially since it is a free upgrade to all Tesla Model X and S owners, and shows Tesla’s continued commitment to the cars.
