Samsung has been releasing Active versions of its flagship smartphones for the last few years, adding features to the top of the line models to make them more compatible with an active lifestyle.
These often include water resistance, dust resistance and a more durable case.
And now it seems that they may do the same for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, after SamMobile reported seeing a device listing for the “Galaxy S7 Active” in one of Samsung’s apps.
Evan Blass (@evleaks), says that the device’s codename is Poseidon, which could mean that the S7 will be getting extra waterproofing or features that are focused further towards using the phone underwater.
That said, the S7 and S7 Edge are already rated at IP68, which means they can already be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes, so how will the Active variants be any different?
Well, they don’t really have to be, take the S5 Active for example, that smartphone was already rated IP67 upon release, but they still released an Active version of it.
With the S7 Active, we expect to see a rugged case, with some more active features like shock resistance, or an even higher IP rating.
