British Gas has announced a new partnership to enhance their Hive Smart Thermostat this week.

This is the partnership with the automation service called IFTTT, which now means that owners of the Hive system can now use a range of automation recipes and connect it with 300 other products and services.

This would allow you to do a number of smart features, without extra gear. Such smartness would include doing stuff such as turning on your heating when you are 30 minutes away from home.

Here’s an explanation of Hive, just in case you don’t know much about this.

Hive is so easy to use. You start with the Hive Hub which is the heart of your connected home. The hub, which you only need to buy once connects all your wireless Hive products so you can control them remotely with the Hive app. Think of the Hive app as the remote control for your home. A single app that lets you see and control all your Hive products from your smartphone.

From heating to plugs to sensors, it’s easy to control everyday things with Hive. Wherever you are, control your Hive products from your mobile, tablet or laptop. We may be a British Gas innovation but our products are available to everyone.
