At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week HTC announced the new HTC Vive consumer set, which they said would retail for $799 in the US, but they did not announce any details on the pricing for other regions, or in particular the UK.

That has changed today, as HTC has finally revealed the UK release date and pricing for their HTC Vive virtual reality headset, and you probably won’t be happy about it.

That is because that price is £689, which if you are any good at maths, is nowhere close to the exchange rate (that’s about £576). Of course taxes and import fees are probably the reason for the extra £110, but that does mean that you are gonna have to make a choice.

Do you shell out for a HTC Vive, or do you get a competitive device that is equally as expensive, but features more. Previously the thought was that the Vive would be the budget device, however, as we now know it isn’t.

If it still does take your fancy then you will be glad to know that pre-orders will kick off today, and orders are expected to be shipped by April 5th.

What’s more HTC will also be bundling Tilt Brush, Job Simulator 2050 Archives and Fantastic Contraption with the virtual reality headset for a short time.
