This week Twitch announced that they have begun testing a HTML5 Video Player in a beta stage.

From this week, the community that uses the Twitch Turbo subscription will be able to select to use the new HTML5 player from the settings on a stream, like in the image above.

Starting today, the HTML5 Player Beta will open to Twitch Turbo subscribers so we can begin to collect feedback on the new player. We plan to steadily expand beta access to more users toward the end of the summer based on the data we gather in this initial test. If you are randomly selected to be part of the beta test, you will see an alert on the video player letting you know that you can click the gear icon to turn on HTML5.

Whilst in this beta, Twitch expects users to help them find any bugs with the code, but they also say that it should provide a much smoother experience for users.

If you have a Twitch Turbo subscription you can test this from today and take advantage of things like faster loading, more consistent video, and fewer interruptions according to Twitch.
