Millions of people watch games on Twitch pretty much every day and that is a huge marketing advantage for both Twitch and Amazon.
Today they revealed that they will be taking that advantage, revealing that they will be selling the games that viewers are watching directly through Twitch, with a portion of the revenue going to the person who is streaming the game.
As you might expect, these sales with be going through Twitch’s parent company Amazon, who will be providing games worldwide, but only through the US dollar currency at launch.
Viewers will be able to make this purchase via a “Buy Now” button that will be placed at the bottom of the streamer’s live page.
But to earn from that button, the streamer will have to be partnered with Twitch and will have to opt-in to the program.
Once they have, they will earn 5 percent of the revenue that has been generated through these stream game sales. Those who have not opted in will still get a “Buy Now” featured on their stream, without the revenue incentive.
But the viewers will get some incentive, with Twitch offering customers a Twitch Crate that is filled with digital rewards for every purchase that they make through Twitch that’s over $4.99.
Currently games on offer will include those from Ubisoft, Telltale Games, Digital Extremes, Hi Rez Studios, Double Fine Games, Fred Wood, 11Bit, Jackbox Games, tinyBuild, Raw Fury, Devolver Digital, Gambitious, Trion Worlds, Blue Mammoth Games, iNK Stories, Versus Evil, Proletariat, Paradox Interactive, Vlambeer and Campo Santo, however, we expect that this list will increase over time, given Amazon’s inventory.
