If you are one of the many users who received a password reset email from Twitter you may be wondering what’s going on, have they been hacked? And is my account safe? Well thankfully the site has not been hacked and your account should be perfectly safe.

Shortly after the emails were sent out Twitter revealed that this was an error on their part, releasing a statement to confirm the password reset emails were an error on its part.

We unintentionally sent some password reset notices tonight due to a system error. We apologize to the affected users for the inconvenience.”

The original email stated that “Twitter believes that your account may have been compromised by a website or service not associated with Twitter,”We’ve reset your password to prevent others from accessing your account.”

If you have received this email you will still have to reset your password, because despite it being an error your account’s password has still been reset.
