Speaking to the BBC just before the BAFTA Game Awards earlier this week, Valve’s boss, Gabe Newell announced that they will be sending the first prototypes for the Steam Box games console to customers for testing in three to four months time.

Also during the awards, Gabe was honoured with an Academy Fellowship for his outstanding creative contribution to the games industry, despite what Gabe explained as a few technical challenges, including heat and noise issues.

Getting back onto the prototypes, here’s what he said in his interview:

“We’ll be giving out some prototypes to customers to gauge their reactions, I guess, in the next three to four months.”

“There are noise issues and heat issues and being able to [deal with] that while still offering a powerful enough gaming experience is the challenge in building it.”
