The US-based carrier Verizon has today revealed what is the coolest mod on Minecraft right now, allowing players to video call, send text messages and browse the web from Minecraft.

Revealed by the Minecraft YouTuber, CaptinSparklez, he shows how you can build a smartphone and cell tower in-game that them make video calls to real life phones outside of the game.

To do this Verizon created a web application called Boxel that “translates real web pages and streaming video into blocks so they can be built on a Minecraft server in real time.” This links with the Boxel-client to “handle the communication between Minecraft and the real world as translated by the web application.”
