Virgin Atlantic have just announced that they are now the first UK-based airline to make use of Apple’s new ticketing feature within iOS 6 named Passbook.

The new compatibly will allow the service to give customers boarding passes through the app, this will allow users to quickly check-in with just their phone and Passport (obviously).

In order to get one the customer must however buy their ticket online, during which they will be able to select the option to send their boarding card to the Passbook application on their iPhone or iPod Touch and head straight to security/ baggage drop after simply stopping by the “pass-check kiosks”.

Once selected the user will receive an e-mail confirmation with a link to their boarding card, this link must then be opened to store it securely within the Passbook application.

However at the moment the service con only be scanned at the departure gates within Virgin Atlantic airports within the UK, which include Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester, so you will most likely need an actual ticket for the ride home.
