Nearly two years after Virgin Galactic’s first SpaceShipTwo experienced a failure during flight, killing both the pilot and the co-pilot of the spacecraft, Virgin Galactic performed their first free flight of the second SpaceShipTwo on Friday.

They performed the unpowered glide flight over the Mojave Desert, where they dropped the VSS Unity (The second SpaceShipTwo) from its carrier plane, the WhiteKnightTwo.

VSS Unity then proceeded to fly for 10 minutes before performing its own landing at the Mojave Air and Space port.

This is a huge occasion for Virgin Galactic and it proves a major point for the company.
