A couple of years ago VLC was unknown outside of the PC, recently however the application moved to the phone and tablet on iOS, and now finally the app is launching its beta on the Google Play Store today.

Saying that you will need an Android handset with a ARMV7 processor which supports the NEON engine, but unless your phone is majorly due for an upgrade you should be okay.

Alongside that the VideoLAN have also stated that this is an unstable beta, likely to crash and “might kill your kitten, destroy your house and start the mayan apocalypse.” so use it at your own risk.

It’s not all doom and gloom however and this app is defiantly worth a download if VLC is one of your main media consumption applications, if you do want to check it out you can head on over to their page right here where you will find a download link.
