When you hear of Vodaphone you instantly think of mobile phones, but recently Vodaphone has been stepping out of this with some new gadgets, the most recent one of these is the signal boosting umbrella which aimed at summer festival goers will both improve you phone signal and charge your phone, oh and it also works as a torch and of course keeps you dry in the typical British weather.

Developed by Kenneth Tong from the University College London, the umbrella does all that with solar cells that have been knitted into the canopy fabric allowing the umbrella to do all the stuff I mentioned above, a Vodaphone spokesman said this when speaking to the Inquirer:

“The Vodafone Booster Brolly uses a clever combination of high gain antenna and low power signal repeater to catch radio waves from a Vodafone transmitter, before dispersing a very low intensity signal, creating a small ‘signal shower’, just above users’ heads,”

The Boosting Brolly is still in the concept stage so currently we don’t know when it will be made available or for how much, but Vodaphone VIP customers will be getting the chance to test them out at a festival next week in the Isle of Wight.
