Western Digital has today announced something interesting, the My Passport Pro, which they claim to be the world’s first portable Thunderbolt powered dual-drive solution, allowing those who require high levels of storage, without the lack of performance.

To keep things quick the My Passport Pro has a user-selectable RAID functionality to deliver the performance needed for demanding applications, and all without the need of any power adapters or extra cables, as the drive will be powered and connected via an integrated Thunderbolt cable.

“The only Thunderbolt dual-drive solution that’s bus-powered, WD’s My Passport Pro enhances the workflow of mobile creative professionals by providing fast transfers and data protection for the large amounts of digital content they generate outside the studio,” said Jim Welsh, executive vice president of branded products and worldwide sales, WD. “From photographers, videographers and musicians to graphic designers and architects, people who depend on portable storage for their livelihood will find My Passport Pro defines a new level of performance, reliability and especially portability.”

In terms of storage, the drive will be available in both 2TB and 4TB capacities, with speeds of up to 233 MB/s, with the main use case being to transfer files quickly and easily backup their needed files, thanks to its available RAID configurations.

Inside the Dual-Drive there are two 2.5 inch hard drives housed inside an aluminium enclosure, which has been shock-tested.

The 2 TB My Passport Pro is $299.99 and the 4 TB model is $429.99 in the US and £239.00 for the 2TB or £349.00 for the 4TB version in the UK, both of which are available from today from Apple and various other retailers, as well as from www.wdstore.com.
