Western Digital are today announcing what they are claiming to be the “world’s first SSD+HDD Dual Drive”, dubbed the WD Black 2 it is a dual drive that fuses both a 2.5 inch solid state drive and a 1TB hard disk drive in order to provide both the great performance of an SSD and the capacity of a HDD, and because it uses a single cable to connect and fits into a conventional 9.5mm slot, it can be used in a number of systems.

WD say that the drive will offer the choice of how and where their data is stored, and the drive will increase its own endurance and life by offloading data usage from the SSD to the HDD.

Alongside which, WD Black 2 is also free from caching algorithms and features a SATA 6Gb/s interface speed and is compatible with PC operating systems ranging from Windows XP to Windows 8.1.

The WD Black 2 will be available from a number of retailers and through WD themselves, and will be priced at £249.99 for the 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD model. You can find out more at the link below.
