Microsoft has today launched the free update for Windows 8.1, granting Windows 8 and Windows RT users the download via the Windows Store, alongside Business users who know have access to the final versions of Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

For new devices, Microsoft will be pre-installed the software from October 18th, which is the same day that it will be able to buy in store.

Some of the new updates include:

  • A customisable Start Screen with more background designs, colours and variable tile sizes.
  • You can now boot up at the Start Screen or the Windows Desktop.
  • The Start button has returned with a new updated apps view.
  • Search with Bing has been enhanced for better online and local searching from the Start Screen.
  • Native support for 3D printing has been included.
  • Up to for apps can now be used side by side, with improved multi-monitor support.
  • SkyDrive has been integrated further.
  • The Windows Store has been updated to make updating apps easier.
