There’s been a lot of rumours pointed towards Microsoft launching Windows Phone 8.1 at their BUILD conference, however as of yet we haven’t really seen too much in terms of what it will actually include.

That changes today as an image of what claims to depict custom live tile backgrounds for the mobile OS has leaked, showing the ability to set custom backgrounds for the OS’s homescreen.

Despite them coming from an unknown source (at least to us), The Verge have confirmed that the images are genuine, so they could indeed be true, however in terms of anything official, we are yet to see any announcements, and will likely have to wait until Microsoft’s BUILD conference later next month on April 5th.

According to the source, the live tiles can also be set to transparent or can be skinned with their own images, however this won’t be enabled by default and not all live tiles will allow for the feature.
