Microsoft announced some pretty cool news for Xbox during their event today, revealing the next big update to the games console which will bring support for Dolby Atmos to the Xbox One and the Xbox One S with the Windows 10 Creators Update.

This will build upon Xbox’s already existing support, particularly with the Xbox One S, which features a built-in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player.

With all of this, Xbox One S users can take full advantage of 4K video with a Dolby Atmos AV receiver.

In case you don’t know, Dolby Atmos is technology that expands upon a regular 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system, adding height channels and creating an enveloping sound field, for full sound like what you will get in a cinema, in fact, Dolby Atmos is also used in cinemas.

But to take advantage of it, you will need an Atmos speaker setup.

The update will be available from both the Xbox One and Xbox One S when the Windows 10 Creators Update is released in early 2017.
